1976 was the year of discos, leisure suits and our country’s bicentennial. Jimmy Carter was on his way to becoming president, NASA unveiled its first space shuttle, Taxi Driver and Rocky were box office hits, and artists like Elton John and Queen were at the height of their careers.
That same year, John Ostlund began an agency of one, with just one account, and an office in the back of a waterbed warehouse. It wasn’t long before business got rolling, and within a few years, John hired his bank teller, Wendy Hill (now, JSA’s CFO), to handle finances. Then, in 1979, the agency began its love affair with downtown Fresno, moving into its first real office on P Street, in the basement of Birdie McTweet’s disco (yes, disco).
Now, from right here in the historic PG&E building on Fulton Street in downtown Fresno, Jeffrey Scott Agency (JSA) offers decades of experience as one of the largest agencies in the Central Valley, with one of the deepest benches.

When you’ve been around since 1976, you’ve been a lot of things to a lot of different people. Today, JSA is an independent, full-service shop with the capability and expertise to do everything from helping brand small local businesses in remote communities to designing product packaging for national brands to launching viral campaigns that generate national coverage and millions in earned media.
Over the past 45 years, JSA has developed numerous multimedia and multilingual public information and outreach programs that addressed the health and safety of the community, as well as its economic vitality, with proven and measurable results. JSA’s in-house services include media planning and buying, multicultural outreach, research, social media strategy, website development and content management; JSA has a robust creative department with a branded content studio including video and motion graphics and drone operator, on-site audio production with recording studio, and a floor of designers, copywriters, illustrators and thinkers.
